It is a tradition among planters in the Vuelta Abajo region to roll the cigars they smoke themselves. It is not uncommon for tourists visiting this part of the province of Pinar del Río to want to taste these local cigars (not to say “homemade”) made with the best tobacco leaves in the World. It was to meet this demand that in 1996 the Vegueros brand was presented to the amateur public of Habenos.
But above, it is created to pay a vibrant tribute to these farmers, keystones of the entire Cuban cigar industry, who, from generation to generation, have tirelessly worked on the Pinard el Rio plantations. The intense flavor that emanates from the Vegueros purada ligada is typical of these “country cigars”, those that farmers roll for their personal consumption. The production is entrusted to the Francisco Donatien factory which occupies an imposing building in the center of the town of Pinard el Rio (capital of the province of the same name in which the Vulta Abajo region is located).
The building is historic because it was built in 1866 and has been refurbished as a cigar factory since 1961. All Habanos Vegueros have long guts and are called “totally mano”. Their taste ranges from medium to strong.
